***Remember, there aren't any literacy Zooms next week while Mrs. McCullough and Mrs. Vincenzo work on the state language arts assessments.

Look at what we will be learning next week:

Math: Learners will use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems.  They will practice solving word problems with the unknowns in all positions. For example:

  • Mrs. Sork has some stickers.  Jude gave Mrs. Sork 4 more stickers.  Now she has 17 stickers.  How many stickers did Mrs. Sork have to start with?   ? + 4 = 17
  • Mrs. Sork has 17 stickers.  She gave some to Liam.  Now she has 4.  How many stickers did she give to Liam?  17 - ? = 4

Science: This week in Science we will be learning about the ways we can use soil, water, and rocks to make useful things.  Please have your child try to find 5 rocks by Tuesday for the Science Zoom.

Language Arts:

Reading:  In reading, we will start learning our parts of speech and talk about nouns.

Writing:   In writing, we will finish up our poetry unit.  We are so proud of how great their poetry looks!

Phonics:   We will learn how to make words plural and the 2 rules about when to add "s" and when to add "es" to the end of a word to make it plural.

Social Studies:  The learners will describe and explain the importance of beliefs,                                                   language, and traditions of families and communities through listening,                                     speaking, reading, and writing.

Fun activities to do at home:

Math Activities to do with your child at home

Make a story problem

  • Give your child a number sentence, 13 - ? = 10
  • Have your mathematician tell you a story that matches the number sentence.

Play " Guess My Number"

  • What number is equal to 1 ten and 23 ones?
  • I am thinking of an even number.  It is greater than 17 and less than 19?  What number am I thinking?
  • I am thinking of a number?  It has 2 tens and 3 ones.  What number am I thinking?

Practice counting to 120 by ones (forwards and backwards) with your child.

Practice counting to 120 by fives and tens with your child.

Practice reading the snap words.  Remember, your child should be able to read all of the snap words in a "snap".

READING  - The Raz Kids app is available to all learners (virtual and face to face).  If your child has extra time at night this is a great way to increase reading skills! Even 15 minutes will help increase vocabulary, increase fluency, and increase comprehension!

Social Studies - What a great time of the year to have discussions about what we are thankful for!  Even in this crazy time, it is important to understand the good that we have.

Virtual Learner Announcements
  • We will be looking at soil during our live zoom lessons.  Please have your child be prepared with their science journal, pencils and a soil sample.  The soil sample can be collected from your backyard, park, etc..
  • Dream Box - Please make sure your child is on Dream Box at least 3 times a week for 15 minutes.  :-)

Face to Face Learner Announcements
  • Please ask your child if they have working headphones.   Many learners have broken their headphones or the headphones do not fit them correctly.  We use these every day so it's good to invest in a good pair of headphones.  If your child needs a new pair, please send them to school.
  • Please make sure you put your child's fully charged Ipad and charger in their backpack each day.  The Ipad battery should be 100%.
  • Please make sure your child has their take home folder with them each day.  Take home folders need to be cleaned out daily at home.
  • We have library on Mondays.  Please make sure to send your library books back to school on Monday so your child can check out some new books.

Virtual and Face to Face Learner Announcements

Go on a rock hunt and gather 5 or more rocks .  Make sure your rocks can fit in a sandwich size ziplock bag.  Rocks should look different from each other.  Face to face and Virtual learners will need their rocks for a science lesson by Tuesday, December 1st.

Every year the Lion's Club of Coppell provides food and toy support to those in need.  If you could benefit from this assistance during the winter holidays, please email  our school counselor, Kelly Matlock at kmatlock@coppellisd.com to request a paper copy of the form be sent home with your child(ren).  If your child(ren) are virtual learners and you would like to pick up a paper copy of the form, please call the front office to arrange for a curbside pick-up.  The form is due Friday, December 4th.

Kindergarten and First Grade will be working with the Coppell Lions Club to coordinate a food and toy drive at Town Center. This will help to provide food and toys for more than 100 Coppell families during the holidays. We'd love for our learners in grades K-5 to bring canned food items and/or a new, unwrapped toy to donate starting December 1st through December 15th.  If you are a face-to-face learner, you may drop your items by the TCE Giving Tree in the front of the school, and canned foods can be put in the boxes at the end of each hallway. Virtual learners may call the front office at 214-496-7800 to make arrangements to drop off your donation in the front loop during school hours. THANK YOU for your support!
