Look at what we will be learning next week: 

Math:  Learners will continue to compose and decompose a number up to 99 as well as use place value and an open number line to compare and order numbers up to 99 using the words greater than/more than, less than, equal.  

For example 54  can be decomposed as the following:  

  • 5 tens and 4 ones
  • 4 tens and 14 ones
  • 3 tens and 24 ones
  • 2 tens and 34 ones 
  • 54 ones

Science: We will move into our unit of Earth Science. Learners will be observing soil samples and discovering what soil is made of - definitely more than dirt!! 

Language Arts:

Reading:  Next week will be a week to review and practice our reading skills.  It is VERY important that your child reads for 30 minutes each day (face to face learners do this at school so no extra reading is required). 

Writing:   Next week we will publish, make an audio book, and reflect on our first chapter book. 

Phonics:   We will learn how /y/ at the end of a word can make the long /i/ sound AND the long /e/ sound.

 Social Studies: The learners will describe the origins of customs, holidays, and celebrations of the community, state, and nation as Independence Day and Veterans Day through listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

  • I am thinking of an even number.  It is greater than 17 and less than 19?  What number am I thinking?   
  • I am thinking of a number?  It has 2 tens and 3 ones.  What number am I thinking? 

Practice counting to 120 by ones (forwards and backwards) with your child.     

Practice counting to 120 by fives and tens with your child.   

Practice reading the snap words.  Remember, your child should be able to read all of the snap words in a "snap". 

READING  - The Raz Kids app is available to all learners (virtual and face to face).  If your child has extra time at night this is a great way to increase reading skills! Even 15 minutes will help increase vocabulary, increase fluency, and increase comprehension!

We will be looking at soil during our live zoom lessons.  Please have your child be prepared with their science journal, pencils and a soil sample.  The soil sample can be collected from your backyard, park, etc..

The next Book in a Bag Exchange in Monday, November 2nd from 8:30 - 12:30 by the front doors at TCE.  Don't forget to bring your books back in a Ziploc bag.  Please also turn in your child's work from "My Little Book of Story Problems!" See picture below.  


Dream Box - Please make sure your child is on Dream Box at least 3 times a week for 15 minutes.  :-)

Face to Face Learner Announcements

Bring soil in a ziplock bag.  Please make sure your child's name is on the bag.  You can find a soil sample in your backyard, park, etc..

Please check with your child if they have working headphones.  Many learners have broken their headphones or the headphones do not fit them correctly. 

Please make sure you put your child's fully charged Ipad and charger in their backpack each day.  The Ipad battery should be 100%.

We have library on Mondays.  Please make sure to send your library books back to school on Monday so your child can check out some new books.

The state of Texas is requiring Literacy Coursework for all Texas state teachers.  Next week  the first grade teachers will be attending district literacy coursework.  Due to a lack of subs in our district, our schedule will look different next week.

1A and 1D will have combined morning Zooms Tuesday - Friday.  Zooms can be accessed through the calendar. 

1B and 1C will have combined morning Zooms Tuesday - Friday.  Zooms can be accessed through the calendar. 

1A, 1B, 1C, 1D - There will only be academic Zooms (math, science, literacy) on Monday. We will not have academic zooms on Tuesday - Friday.

The bag with the books will contain stapled papers that we will use for writing starting on Oct. 26th.  Please keep it in a safe place until then.  Thank you! 

You will also be picking up math and science supplies.  You will receive the volume 2 math workbook along with some papers that we will be using in upcoming lessons.  You will also receive 2 magnets.  Please make sure to keep these magnets safe and away from any younger children and pets.  Do not use the magnets on iPads or computers.  Thank you!

CISD Technology Update

The update is available for download in “Settings” on all district iPads. The technology department is asking all users to update their devices as soon as possible. To do this, the user will go to Settings, go to General, touch Software Update, touch Download and Install. This will begin the process. The user will need to agree to the terms and conditions before the download begins. It should take fewer than 10 minutes to download the update, and another 15 or 20 minutes to install the software. If the update is not completed by October 19th, the device will lockdown until completed. Please plan accordingly to have it done well before then. Please aim to have your child's iPad updated by October 14th.
