Week of September 14th - 18th

  Calendar

Please note the change of dates for virtual learner book exchange.......

  • Monday, September 21st:  Virtual Learner Leveled Book Exchange (8:30 - 12:30) by front doors
  • Monday, October 5th :  Virtual Learner Leveled Book Exchange (8:30 - 12:30) by front doors

Look at what we will be learning next week:

MathLearners will continue to represent numbers in a variety of ways as well as compose and decompose numbers up to 20.  We will also begin comparing numbers using the greater than, less than and equal symbol. We will be using our math tool kit next week.  If your child has their math tool kit at home, please have their numbers 1 -20 cut out and put in a safe spot.  Learners will also need their greater than, less than and equal symbols and words cut out.

Fun videos to watch with your child:

Science: We will be exploring what happens when heat is added or taken away from solids and liquids.  We will have a couple of very simple activities that you can help with from home. The only things needed will be a cup, some water, and a freezer!

Language Arts

Reading:    Next week we will continue discuss reading strategies on how to solve tricky words.

Writing:  We will begin to write fictional narrative stories using transitional words (first, next, last).

Phonics:  short /i/ sound

Social Studies:  We will identify historical figures and other individuals who have exemplified good citizenship.

Fun activities to do at home:

Math

  • Take turns counting forward and backwards with your child.  Our goal for this nine weeks is up to 20, but if your child is up for the challenge go higher.
  • Have a friendly discussion with your child on all the ways to make 10.  If they are up for the challenge, pick a number greater than 10.

Important News:
The building is closed to all visitors, including TCE families, at this time. Only current learners and staff are allowed in the building.

Curriculum Night:

Assignment Help
Parents we are so thankful for your amazing partnership as we navigate virtual learning together.  We are looking forward to learning about your child's academic strengths and areas of growth this week as we dive into content-specific assignments.  In order to do this, it is important. that we have an authentic understanding of your child's abilities through their assignments.  We would love for you to help your child understand assignment directions and answer simple questions your child may have during the day.  We are asking that when they are working on their assignments for you to not intervene if they make a mistake.  Mistakes are how we learn and seeing what your child is able to do independently is an important part of our roles as teachers.  Thank you so much for all you are doing to partner with us this year.  We could not do this without all of YOU!

FAQ from Curriculum Night
Can you make the Zoom links more clear for specials?  The specials teachers are in charge of their zoom links and classes.  If you have a question, please reach out to the specials teacher directly.

If I am a virtual learner and I miss a Zoom or am late to Zoom am I considered absent or Tardy?  Tardies are not counted for Virtual Learners and as long as you work through the coursework and submit all assignments by 11:59 pm you will be counted as "present".

Can I use the yellow sign for my car window from last year?  We ask that you use the new signs that will hang from your rear view mirror. They will be given to your child on the first day of in class instruction.  The new signs have your child's first grade class section on the sign.

My child will be picked up by different adults throughout the year, can I have more than one sign for my car?  Please contact your teacher if you need an additional sign for your car.

Virtual Learner Announcements
Zoom schedule will change slightly starting Monday.  Please see the e-mail from your teachers regarding the Zoom schedule change.  New Zoom Schedules will also be posted in your child's Schoology course.

If you did not pick up your  "Learner Supplies" today, please e-mail your teacher to arrange a time for you to get your supplies and leveled books for use at home.

Please remember that all coursework for the day needs to be submitted by 11:59pm.  Due to district policy, late submissions will not be accepted.

Face to Face Learner Announcements
Students should be in the classroom ready to start their day no later than 7:40 AM . If they arrive late, a parent must call the front office to check in their child as tardy. Our office aide will come get them from their car in the front loop to let them in the building.

If you need to pick up your child early, please call the office at 214-496-7800 and a staff member will bring your child outside to you.

Please call the office with any "day of" changes in how your child will get home.  Teachers can't always check their emails with this information and notifying the office of "day of" changes will prevent any miscommunication.

K-2 will dismiss in the front loop.  If a K-2 learner has an older sibling, the older sibling must come to the K-2 line outside and be picked up in the front loop. If you are picking up your child in the car, please make sure you have their name in a card in the window.  If you are walking to pick up your child, please stay in the parent designated area by the bike racks.

Please remember that forgotten supplies (Ipads, lunches, water bottles, etc.) will not be able to be dropped off at TCE during the day.  We will have extra water bottles and technology for your child to use and they will have to purchase a lunch from the cafeteria if a lunch is forgotten at home.

Due to safety reasons, birthday treats will not be able to be sent to school.

Don't forget to send a water bottle and a "nut free" snack to school each day.  Please make sure that the water bottle has a spill proof top on it.

Please make sure you put your child's fully charged Ipad and charger in their backpack each day.
